Memory modules rely on an EEPROM called the Serial Presence Detect (SPD). The computer uses it to identify the characteristics of the memory module. Computer manufacturers use this SPD information to identify modules.
It enables you to read SPD codes and automatically identify the module's size, speed grade, and structure.
